How dare you Mayor Turner!

Dear Editor:
Over the years we have put up with a lot. Higher taxes, more crime, and watching you spend our tax dollars to further your political agenda. All this, while you bolster your political clout in the county by handing out jobs and apartments like candy at Halloween.
Once again you have crossed the line! Several years back you denied several retirees their benefits and we chalked that up to your petty politics, something we have unfortunately had to grow used to in Weehawken.
But, I was recently informed that someone I respect and admire. Someone who served the people of Weehawken faithfully and with honor as a police officer, has been affected.
But beyond that, someone who served his country in Vietnam as a decorated serviceman, and today he suffers from the chemicals that he ingested in battle. These chemicals are ravaging his body and have forced him into another battle, one for his life.
And during this, you, yes “you”, have decided to deny him, along with other retired police officers, many who also have served their country, the compensation for their benefits that they deserve.
Perhaps mayor, you should picture his face next time you shake hands and salute the flag on Veterans Day, or decide to skip Memorial Day traditions.
Remember its not about votes, its about those who served our community and our country, and most of all those who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve the freedoms you trample on every day. For once in your over extended stay in the mayors office, do the right thing.
