Griffin, Miceli lift Bears into title bout

With their sights set on clinching a spot in the JCC of Bayonne Indoor Flag Football Jr. Division Championship game the (7-3) Bears locked horns with the (6-4) Colts. A win would put the Bears in the drivers seat while the Colts need two victories to secure a seat in the Championship round. The Colts went right to work on the ground as speedster Ahmad McGill notched his 32nd TD with a zone to zone gallop followed by a two point catch as the Colts took an 8-0 lead. After falling prey to the Colts’ running attack, the Bears’ defense, led by Michael Egan, Jordan Neustein, Anthony Fraser, and Matt Miceli kept the Colts’ league leading offense corralled up for most of the game. With their defense entrenched, the Bears’ offense went to the air as QB Matt Miceli drilled TD tosses to Ryan “Iron” Griffin (2) and Nicholas Resua (1) as the Bears built an 18-8 advantage. With their ground game kept in check, the Colts went to the air but the Bears’ Matt Miceli stepped up with a huge “pick” at half court to stall the Colts’ charge. Returning to their running game, the Colts surged again as Chris Ballance, Kyle Arano, Kasper Hooks, ad Michael Aziz worked the ball up court but once again the Bears’ “D” dug in to end the Colts’ drive. With under two minutes remaining, the Bears added some insurance points as Ryan Griffin sprinted in for his third TD followed by a two point dart to give the Bears a commanding 26-8 advantage. The Colts didn’t go quietly as Ahmad McGill’s coast to coast TD run put him at 214 points on the year but the Bears held on for a 26-14 win and a trip to the Championship round.
