HOBOKEN – The Hoboken Charter School was awarded a grant for $10,000 on Tuesday by Young Audiences of New Jersey & Eastern Pennsylvania, an organization that funds arts-in-education initiatives around the country.
The Sandy Relief Arts Education Grant, funded through the New Jersey Recovery Fund and the organization’s fundraising efforts, is designed to assist with recovery from Hurricane Sandy through artistic innovation, according to a press release from the group.
The school will work with Young Audiences in the coming months to develop arts programming that assists students recovering from Sandy.
“With this collaboration with Young Audiences, Hoboken Charter High School hopes to strengthen our children’s identities and their bonds within our communities, help them build relationships and gain trust, and enhance their self-esteem, confidence and creativity,” said a statement from the group.
Hoboken Charter High School was one of only 12 schools throughout New Jersey to be awarded this grant, and only one of two high schools.
“We are thrilled to receive this generous grant,” said Chris Sell, the school’s principal. “With the help of Young Audiences, we can offer our students inspiring, arts-rich experiences that will help build strength and character in our students as they cope with the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.” – Dean DeChiaro
