Dear Editor: The following is an open letter to the Jersey City and city council members from John R. Cupo.
Dear Jersey City and city council members:
Where to start? The City will give a little to get a lot out of this deal. Jersey City future is in building housing. You have a builder who wants to build in Journal Square and spend 277,000,000 million dollars. This will be the start of bigness in housing. So far where is the problem? So now free market rents in three new building’s…So far where is the problem? You have Journal Square that looks and feels like junk, (even the Jersey Journal moved out) This gives that section of the city (Journal Square) a chance to improve, to catch on in the area.
Then others will see the success and build more buildings. its been sucky for 30 years. Ask the Port Authority to improve the path station — they make loads of money operating out of Jersey City and spend it all in New York. Property Tax is only one tax, how about the taxes on other items that the new residents spend and the city gets it back in the form of grants from the State of NJ. That amount will exceed the tax being collected. So in closing do not roll over, both parties will make a sensible deal, progress one deal at a time.
