Man found shot behind Ahern Stadium

A Bayonne man was found shot on Nov. 19 behind Ahern Veterans Memorial Stadium at about 8 a.m. by an employee of the Bayonne Department of Public Works, said Public Safety Director Jason O’Donnell.
The 22-year-old Egyptian immigrant, who is believed to have allegedly shot himself, was still in critical condition as of Nov. 20, O’Donnell said, and is currently at Jersey City Medical Center.
O’Donnell said the weapon was discovered at the site of the shooting.
The stadium is situated near Bayonne High School.

Bayonne Bridge shuttle suspended until spring

It is going to be a long cold winter for pedestrians and bicyclists who had been using shuttle service to get over the Bayonne Bridge. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced this week that it would suspend the service until May. The bridge is undergoing construction to raise it to allow larger container ships to pass under it.

Freeholders approve $718 G in social service block grants from the state

The Hudson County Board of Freeholders approved $718,078 of the Social Services Block Grant from the New Jersey Department of Human Services Division of Aging Services for distribution of Sandy Relief Programs at its November meeting. The Sandy Relief Programs are related to the Social Services Block Grant and will provide Home Repair Advocacy and the Senior Nutrition Replenishment Program.
The term of this grant will run from October 1, 2013 through September 30, 2015.
The following organizations will receive funds:
Hudson County Area Agency Aging (administration), Home Repair and Advocacy Program, $26,602; Bayonne Economic Opportunity Foundation (BEOF), residential maintenance, $300,000; Puertorriquenos Asociados for Community Organization (PACO), residential maintenance, information and assistance, $225,000; Urban League, information and assistance, $23,077; Hopes Cap, Inc, information and assistance, $23,077; City of Hoboken, information and assistance, $23,077; Town of Kearny, information and assistance, $23,077; City of Jersey City, Senior Nutrition Replenishment Program, $7,004; City of Bayonne, Senior Nutrition Replenishment Program, information and assistance, $30,081; Jewish Family Services, Senior Nutrition Replenishment Program, information and assistance, $30,079; Town of Harrison, Senior Nutrition Replenishment Program, $7,004.
