McGill, Cifuentes fuel duel

As the JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Flag Footballs Jr. Division moves closer to playoff mode, the (1-5) Jets and the (4-3) Colts are still fine tuning their games. The Jets got on the board first as Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes raced wire to wire for a TD and then made it 8-0 on a two point sweep. The Colts quickly answered with Ahmad McGill’s goal to goal TD gallop to make it 8-6, Jets. After a long drive, the Jets made it a 16-6 game as Declan McCormick reeled in a TD grab followed by a Alejandro Cifuentes two point catch. Trailing by 10, the Colts’ Ahmad McGill turned a swing pass into six pointsand as Kasper Hooks hauled in a two point toss the Colts had narrowed the margin to 16-14. With the Colts in hot pursuit, the Jets’ “See Ya” Cifuentes made it 24-16 on a 25 yard run and a two point catch. As the Jets’ Alanis Concepcion and the Stack brothers, Benjamin and Owen bolstered the Jet run defense, the Colts went to the air as Ahmad McGill took a screen pass “to the house” and then made it 24-22 with a two point toss to Kyle Arano. The turning point in the game occurred late in the second half when Michael Aziz and the Colts’ defense forced a safety to knot the game at 24 all. With the game tied, the Colts took their first lead of the day when Ahmad McGill’s third TD and Chris Ballance’s acrobatic two point grab made it 32-24, Colts. Neither team showed signs of slowing down as the Jets retied the bout at 32-32 on a long TD and two point sprint by Alejandro Cifuentes. After a strong defensive stand, the Jets’ offense cashed in with another TD and two point run by “See Ya” Cifuentes to put the Jets up 40-32. One play later, the Colts’ speedster Ahmad McGill raced the distance to cut the Jets’ lead to 40-38. With less than two minutes remaining, the Colts added two more TDs by McGill and Arano capped off by a two point plunge by McGill as the Colts pulled out to a 52-40 advantage. As time ticked down, the Jets struck back as Alejandro Cifuentes’ TD and Aaliyana Cifuentes’ two point dash made it 52-48 but in the end the Colts hung on for a narrow 4 point victory.
