BACCILE, NICOLA

A funeral mass was offered Nov. 14 at Holy Rosary Church for Nicola Baccile, 85, the proprietor of M/N Baccile and Son Italian Market and Dairy in the Downtown neighborhood of Jersey City. He passed away Nov. 10. He was born in Casalbordino, Abruzzi, Italy and moved to Jersey City in 1947. He was a master chef, merchant, food culturist and educator, and wine and cheese maker. His warm and welcoming manner made everyone feel like family. From the late 1980s into the 2000s he was the executive chef at Presto’s Italian Restaurant, also in Jersey City. Nicola was honored to serve as a youth envoy for the Allied Forces in Italy during World War II and as a decorated marksman for The United States Army during the Korean Conflict. As a United States Veteran, he was a designee of the Korean Veterans Association Certificate of Ambassador for Peace Award. He thoroughly enjoyed travel, Italian music and culture, international sports, and world history. He was also a founding member of The Columbus Club in Jersey City and devout parishioner of Holy Rosary Church. He was the father of JoAnne Baccile and the late Michael Baccile, husband of Carmela Baccile, and grandfather of Natalie Baccile-Rodrigues. He is survived by members of the Baccile, Dispoto, and Antonelli families and many nieces and nephews. Services arranged by the Riotto Funeral Home, Jersey City.
