Invaluable to the Hispanic community

Dear Editor:
I am writing this letter to the editor in response to the letter “Helping Us Help Others” about International Stuttering Awareness Day, which was on October 22. The letter mentions the website of The Stuttering Foundation (www.stutteringhelp.org) and its features such as a directory of speech therapists and the video 7 Tips for the Child Who Stutters.
The website of this nonprofit organization is famous for the free resources it provides, which are accessed by people all across the globe. Since New Jersey has such a large Latino population, I feel it necessary to bring to the attention of your readers that there is a Spanish-language version of the Stuttering Foundation website at www.tartamudez,org. This Spanish version is invaluable to the Hispanic community in the U.S. because so many Spanish-speaking parents do not know where to turn to help their child who stutters, as well as for helping adult Spanish-speakers who stutter. The streaming videos are most helpful. Since most Latin American nations lag behind in terms of speech therapy, tartamudez.org also helps countless people throughout Latin America. A couple of years ago there was even a feature article about The Stuttering Foundation and tartamudez.org in the main newspaper in Equatorial Guinea, the only Spanish-speaking nation in Africa.
I also want to mention a valuable brochure that is available for download on both sites called “Stuttering the Bilingual Child”, which has helped parents of many different languages.
Thank you for publishing this letter so that the Hispanic community will be aware of the free resources that are available to them through the Stuttering Foundation.

Sincerely,
Enrique Horta
