Hoboken Mayor Zimmer appointed to presidential climate committee

HOBOKEN — On Friday, Mayor Dawn Zimmer was selected as a member of Pres. Barack Obama’s Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience.
The panel is meant to advise the administration on how the federal government can respond to the needs of communities nationwide that are dealing with extreme weather and other climate impacts.
Zimmer received national recognition last year for her handling of Hurricane Sandy.
“One year ago, our community experienced the kind of disaster that will become more and more frequent as a result of climate change,” said Zimmer. “I am honored to be a part of this initiative and look forward to sharing our experiences and lessons to help make communities nation-wide more resilient.“
According to a press release, “President Obama established the Task Force as part of his Climate Action Plan to cut carbon pollution, prepare communities for the impacts of climate change that cannot be avoided, and lead international efforts to address this global challenge.”
