With an (0-2) record, the Chargers knew it would be an uphill battle to down the high scoring (2-0) Bengals as they took the court in the JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Flag Football Sr. Division. On the second play of the game, Jared Radil put the Bengals in scoring position with a “pick”. One play later, the Bengals made it 8-0 with a TD run by Malachi Smith and a two point grab by Michael Tedesco. Moments later, it was an 8-6 game as Adrianna “Magic” Morrone sailed in for an Eagles’ TD on a full court toss. The Eagles kept soaring as TDs by James Johnson, “Magic” Morrone and a two point catch by Morrone gave the Eagles a 20-8 lead. Down by 12, Malachi Smith rushed in for a 25 yard TD gallop and then reeled in a two point play to bring his Bengals within 4 points at 20-16. As the Eagles worked up court, Ahmad McGill cashed in with a TD catch to boost the Eagles’ lead to 26-16. The scoring surge continued as Ahmad McGill torched the Bengals’ secondary for his second TD grab giving the Eagles a 32-16 advantage. With less than 9 minutes remaining, the Bengals’ Malachi Smith added another TD and two point catch to keep his team in the hunt at 32-24. With their first win in sight, the Eagles’ “Magic Morrone notched another TD and two point catch to stretch the Eagles’ lead back out to 16 points a 40-24. The Bengals gained new hope in the closing minutes a Michael Tedesco picked off a pass to set up a Drew Radil TD reception to make it 40-30 at the two minute mark. Things got really heated when a key defensive play by Lucas Neukirchner led to a Bengals’ TD by Malachi Smith and James Bajors’ two point play making it 40-38, Eagles to add to the drama, the Eagles picked up a huge first down which led to “Magic” Morrone’s fourth TD of the day and as Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes gripped a two point toss the Eagles led 48-38 with 42 seconds left in the game. Quickly the Bengals struck with Jared Radil reeling in a TD but the Eagles held on for a thrilling 48-44 victory.
