Minotto, Betancur spur Eagles
At (0-1) the Chargers faced the (0-0) Eagles for a JCC of Bayonne Indoor Flag Football Sr. Division duel. With the pace of a runaway train, the Chargers raced out to a 22-0 advantage as Adrianna “Magic” Morrone, James Johnson, and Jazmine Garcia racked up TD’s while Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes and the Chargers’ defense added two point scores. The Eagles finally caught a break when Jaime Betancur picked off a pass to end the Chargers’ scoring barrage. Anthony Minotto and Jan Patrick Egan put the Eagles on the board just before halftime with a TD run and two point catch. Leading 22-8, the Chargers hit paydirt again as “Magic” Morrone hauled in a zone to zone grab with Ryan Giocoli making it 30-8 on a two point connection. Hoping to spark his squad, Eagles’ QB Jamaaron Aquino fired TD tosses to Anthony Minotto and Jaime Betancur to close the gap to 30-20. Also, keying the Eagles’ claw back was a huge interception by a ball hawking Anthony Minotto. With a 10 point lead, the Chargers kept rolling as Ryan Giocoli made it 36-20 on a 20 yard TD strike from QB James Johnson. Moments later, Minotto made it a 36-26 bout with his third TD as the Eagles inched closer. Minotto than stepped up defensively with his second “pick” to set up his fourth TD of the game as Aquino fired in a goal to goal toss. With their lead cut to four points at 36-32, the Chargers’ Jazmine Garcia reeled in her second TD catch making it 42-32, Chargers with just two minutes remaining. The Chargers were poised to seal the deal until Jaime Betancur pilfered his second interception to set up his own TD and two point play to make the score 42-40, Chargers. After a big defensive stand keyed by stops by Chris and Ryan Ballance, the Eagles had one last shot and Betancur answered with a coast to coast TD sprint to stun the Chargers as the Eagles soared back for a 46-42 victory.
