Week two of the JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Flag Footballs Jr. Division pitted the (1-0) Bears and the (1-0) Jets. The Bears took an early 8-0 lead as Michael Egan reeled in a TD and then scampered for a two point conversion. The Jets answered with coast to coast TD sprints by Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes and Declan McCormick followed by a two point dash by Benjamin Stack and a two point safety by their defense. Trailing 16-8, the Bears’ Matt Miceli blasted in from 15 yards out for a TD with Michael Egans’ two point sweep tying the bout at 16 all. The Jets defense put their squad back in front 18-16 as they pounced on the Bears’ ball carrier for another safety. One play later the Jets built a 24-16 advantage as Alejandro Cifuentes raced in for a full court TD run. After short tosses to Anthony Fraser and Jordan Neustein, the Bears tied the game at 24-24 on a Ryan Griffin TD sprint and a 2 point pass to Nicholas Resua. With two minutes remaining, the Jets’ Declan McCormick galloped wire to wire to lift the Jets out to a 30-24 advantage Down by 6, the Bears’ Matt Miceli rolled long distance for a TD and as Ryan Griffin bulled in a two point run the Bears held a 32-30 lead. The Jets gave it one last push as Owen Stack, Aaliyanna Cifuentes and Alanis Concepcion worked the ball up to the Bears’ 3 yard line but the Bears’ Nicholas Resua sealed the 32-30 victory with a “pick” in the endzone.
