Dear Editor:
Flooding, over-development and fiscal responsibility are the three issues that should decide the 2013 Mayoral and At Large – City Council – races.
To address flooding we need to build flood pumps, flood barriers and underground flood water detention systems. We also need to make good zoning and planning board decisions that account for drainage issues.
To address over-development we need to properly negotiate with NJ Transit, stop the Monarch and respect the master plan. We also need to rehabilitate our affordable housing as opposed to aggressively expanding it.
To address fiscal responsibility we need to maintain a healthy budget surplus, end one shot revenue deals and properly manage large liabilities – such as the hospital. We also need to be willing to bond for a project when its expected benefit exceeds its cost and it is within our means.
I will vote for those candidates who give our city the best chance to succeed in managing these three issues. Other voters should do the same.
Sincerely,
Franz Paetzold
