Dear Editor:
Again, Michael Fischetti suggests in his most recent letter that your publication is the proper forum for the explanation he seeks of the progress the district is making.
Were Mr. Fischetti to attend the monthly Board of Education meetings, he would hear our superintendent describe at length the many successful programs put in place in recent years; he would hear of the increased SAT scores; he would hear of the elementary school students who, as evidenced by their state test scores, are moving up the literacy and math ladders. And he would get a chance to learn about and see successful district students who are proudly recognized at each meeting.
These meetings are open to the public, and community members always have the opportunity to speak. The schedule is available on the district website, and advance notice of each meeting appears in the Hoboken Reporter.
I would certainly encourage Mr. Fischettii to participate at these public board meetings. I know we share the same goals: high student achievement and efficient spending. It’s never one or the other, and it’s always a work in progress.
Sincerely,
Tom Kluepfel
Member, Hoboken Board of Education
