HUDSON COUNTY– The Hudson County Board of Freeholders authorized last week the acceptance of a $271,842.00 grant from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program.
The grant is administered through the United States Department of Justice. It permits local governments to support activities to prevent and control crime.
The following Hudson County municipalities are eligible to receive funding:
Bayonne $16,515.00
Hoboken $15,614.00
Jersey City $184,397.00
North Bergen $10,009.00
Union City $27,424.00
West New York $17,883.00
This program spans a period of 48 months over which time the federal government is expected to provide a total of $271,842.00 without requiring matching funds from the county.
“The Hudson County Board of Freeholders are committed to provide the necessary resources to assist police agencies in the municipalities of Hudson County,” says Freeholder Chairman Anthony L. Romano.
The grant is named after a police officer in New York. The funds go through each prosecutor’s office to be used for law enforcement uses.
Hoboken will dedicate its money for the purchase of radios, officials said. – By Al Sullivan
