HUDSON COUNTY – The Senate Environment and Energy Committee and the Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee were scheduled to hold a joint hearing Monday in Jersey City at 7 p.m. to take testimony from members of the public on the progress of Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts in the state, and specifically in affected Hudson County communities.
Residents who were impacted by Hurricane Sandy, which hit the area last October, are encouraged to attend this joint hearing to provide first-hand accounts of the state’s recovery efforts and the pace of rebuilding.
The public hearing was scheduled for Jersey City’s City Hall, 280 Grove St.
To date, Sandy is the worst storm to hit New Jersey. Communities throughout Hudson County experienced massive power outages that lasted for days and, in some cases, for weeks. Several neighborhoods were flooded, leaving residents and business owners faced with the task of rebuilding their properties and having to negotiate the bureaucratic Federal Emergency Management Agency relief process.
The Senate committee is chaired by Senator Bob Smith (D-Middlesex) and the Assembly committee is chaired by Assemblywoman L. Grace Spencer (D-Essex).
