‘Safe Kids Day’ on Sunday, Sept. 15, in Guttenberg
The Town of Guttenberg will hold its annual “Safe Kids Day” on Sunday, Sept. 15, from noon to 5 p.m. on Boulevard East between 68th and 71st Streets.
All Guttenberg residents are invited to attend. Music, food, demonstrations, and more will be the attractions at the event.

Registration beginning for library fall programs; satellite facility opens
The North Bergen Board of Trustees and Library Director Sai Rao have announced that registration for the library’s annual fall programs will begin on Monday, Sept. 16, at 9 a.m.
Programs commence on Monday, Sept. 23.
Registration is open to North Bergen and Guttenberg residents. Registation must be done in person at 8411 Bergenline Ave., and proof of age and residency are required.

Moody’s Reaffirms North Bergen’s Excellent Aa3 Bond Rating
Moody’s Investors Service released a report last week reaffirming North Bergen’s excellent Aa3 bond rating and crediting Mayor Nicholas Sacco’s administration’s handling of township finances.
The rating applies to the township and the North Bergen Municipal Utilities Authority’s debt obligations, which have consistently dropped over the last 10 years. Moody’s specifically pointed to North Bergen’s leadership, crediting it as a “prudent management team” and also mentioned its “sizeable tax base with proximity to New York City” and “strong current fund reserves.”
“North Bergen is in as strong a financial position as it has ever been in and I am proud to see Moody’s reaffirm our outstanding bond rating,” said Mayor Sacco. “This rating is a testament to the hard work of our financial management team, our ability to attract businesses to the township to grow our ratable base, and our record of maintaining one of the state’s most stable property tax rates.”
Moody’s defines its Aa3 rating as “high quality and very low credit risk,” making bonds issued by municipalities carrying the rating attractive to investors.
“This then allows municipalities with excellent ratings like North Bergen to issue debt to pay for public improvements, parks and other projects at lower interest rates, saving taxpayers significantly while the loans are repaid,” said spokesman Philip Swibinski.
Community Blood Services hosting North Bergen drive
Community Blood Services is hosting a blood drive at the Palisades Medical Center, 7600 River Rd., North Bergen, on Friday, Sept. 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. All blood types are needed.
Any healthy individual, ages 17 through 75, and weighing at least 110 pounds, can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing signature.

Health Fair being held for north Hudson residents
The Dvine Konektion Community Development Corporation is offering a free community fair on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 5516 Jefferson St., West New York.
Residents of North Bergen, Guttenberg, West New York, Union City, and Weehawken are welcome to attend.
There will be blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol screenings, and more.

Palisades Medical Center releases schedule of free community health screenings
Palisades Medical Center’s has released dates for free health screenings that will be held in Guttenberg and North Bergen in the coming months.
All of the screenings and information will be about: blood pressure, heart rate, percentage of oxygen in the blood, peak flow/respiratory, body mass index, sugar, and cholesterol.
On Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. a screening will be held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 6823 Jackson St., Guttenberg; on Nov. 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., one will be held at
the Woodcliff Reformed Church, 7605 Palisade Ave., North Bergen; and on Nov. 24, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., a screening will take place at the Sacred Heart Church, 9034 Barr Pl., North Bergen.
Palisades Medical Center partners with North Hudson Community Action Corporation, Christ Hospital School of Nursing, and Partnership for Maternal and Child Health of Northern NJ to provide free health screenings and education programs.
The New Jersey Hospital Association recognized Palisades Medical Center’s Community Outreach Program with its Community Outreach Award for its unique and effective methods of reaching out to better serve the healthcare needs of area residents.
