HOBOKEN — Hoboken Housing Authority (HHA) Commissioner Greg Lincoln will resign from his post by the end of the year because he is moving out of the country, according to a report on Hoboken Patch. Lincoln is moving to Qatar, a state in the the Middle East, due to his wife’s job relocation.
“I will be submitting my resignation before I leave American soil,” Lincoln told Patch.
Lincoln’s resignation will likely intensify an ongoing power struggle at on the HHA that has seen allies of Mayor Dawn Zimmer split with allies of Executive Director Carmelo Garcia over Vision 20/20, a plan to demolish and rebuild the projects, and over the contract of Charles Daglian, the board’s attorney.
Zimmer’s allies on the board currently hold a majority as long as former Chairman Jake Stuiver retains his seat as a “holdover” until the City Council can choose a replacement by Aug. 3. But the council is deadlocked along pro and anti-Zimmer lines, and thus is unlikely to agree on a replacement. With Lincoln’s resignation, they will be forced to fill a second seat as well. According to the report, Lincoln, who was appointed to the board last June, has yet to complete the federally-mandated courses every housing commissioner must complete in order to serve. Lincoln told Patch he had meant to complete his training, but when he found out he was moving, it seemed “futile.”
Besides serving on the housing board, Lincoln ran unsuccessfully against Michael Russo for council. — Dean DeChiaro
