UNION CITY AND JERSEY CITY — According to an email from an activist, a group of neighbors in Union City and Jersey City who have recently watched the destruction of 30 mature Sycamore Trees at Washington Park planned to hold a vigil to mark their passing on Tuesday night, July 2, at 7:30 p.m.
According to a release, “Many residents feel the loss deeply. Several have played in that park as children. Seeing the flat earth that is left, bereft of its natural beauty, feels like a personal loss. It is akin to losing a friend. We are planning a community vigil for Tuesday evening to recognize the spiritual nature of the loss of these giants, and the 67 species of birds who frequented them, and the shade they provided.”
