HEMINGWAY, VANESSA

Funeral services took place May 3 at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Jersey City, for Vanessa Hemingway, 54. She passed away April 29. She was a lifelong resident of Jersey City. Vanessa was the mother of Amanda Hemingway, wife of Jerome Hemingway, daughter of Eleanor and the late James Edward Mixson, Sr. Vanessa was a graduate of St. Bridget’s Grammar School in 1973 and attended St. Mary’s High School, graduated from James J. Ferris High School in 1977, and a graduate of St. Peter’s College. Vanessa worked as a teacher’s assistant at A. Harry Moore, a counselor at the occupational center, a dispatcher for the Jersey City Police Department, and volunteered at the Booker T. Washington summer program. Vanessa leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Eleanor Mixson; brothers, James Jr. (Lakeia) and Kirk Mixson, and the late Lance Mixson; sisters, Barbara Sherman (Kevin), Debra Grant (Alfred), Shawnette Richardson (Curtis), Teresa Grant (Charles) and Deneen Mixson; uncles, Marvin and Thomas Mixson, and Albert Clawson; aunts Marlene Jackson, Gloria Hawkins (Cliff), Barbara Ann Smith (James), Clarastine Arkbar; and a host of other relatives and friends.
