CUNNINGHAM, MIRIAM L.

A mass of Christian burial was held May 8 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Jersey City, for Miriam Louise Reddick. She grew up in Rahway, and graduated from Rahway High School. Miriam attended Jersey City State Teachers College and received a B.S. degree in Education. She also earned a M.A. in Supervision and Administration from Seton Hall University.
Miriam was an elementary school teacher with the Jersey City Public Schools for 40 years until her retirement in 1991 as an Assistant Principal. Over the years, Miriam started Girl Scout Troops at Grace Episcopal Church and at St. John’s Episcopal Church, both in Jersey City. Miriam served for many years as a volunteer for the Visiting Homemakers Association and for Literacy Volunteers of America. She enjoyed her 21 years of retirement with her grandchildren and by traveling the world.
Miriam was married to the late Wilbur Cunningham. She had five siblings: George Sheppard, Florence Mosley, Tabitha Reddick, Roberta Brown and Aida Jefferies. She is survived by four children; Bradley Cunningham (Maggie), Pamela Sheridan, Rosemary Nwabueze (Jude) and Jacqueline Mayes, 7 grandchildren; Bradley Cunningham Jr., Jerome Sheridan, Shelia Sheridan, Jude Nwabueze, Niambi Mayes, Amir Muhammad and Joshua Nwabueze, 1 great grandchild Ariyana Joy Cunningham, 1 sister Aida Jeffries, friends Cynthia Harris, Gladys Peterson, Helen Jenkins, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents William and Elizabeth Reddick, and her siblings except Aida Jefferies. Services arranged by the Cotton Parker Funeral Home, Jersey City.
