Team Woods leads Devils to win

Still in search of its first Jewish Community Center of Bayonne Sr. Division Floor Hockey victory, the (0-4) Islanders pulled out all the stops as they took on the (2-2) Devils. Playing with an open net and James Bajor guarding and clearing the defensive zone, the Islanders’ offense cashed in as Natallyah Teixeira gave her team a 1-0 early lead. The lead held up for most off the first period until the Devils’ team captain, Mackenzie Woods, blasted the tying shot off an assist from Josh Greenbaum. Minutes later, the Devils took a 2-1 advantage as Drew Radil assisted Josh Greenbaum on his first goal of the season. The fired-up Islanders answered with a barrage of shots on net resulting in Gabriella Bonillas’ third goal of the season as James Bajor notched the assist. Knotted at 2 all, the Devils took control as goalie Colin Woods turned his debut into a highlight reel by registering 19 saves. As the saves mounted, the Devils’ offense caught fire as Mackenzie Woods hit the hat trick mark with two more goals while Josh Greenbaum made the most of his time out of net by tallying his second goal. Assisting on the Devils’ scoring bounty were Melanie Bonilla, Drew Radil, and Josh Greenbaum. Leading 5-2, the Devils’ Jared Radil put an end to any Islanders comeback hopes as he stalled every offensive surge at midcourt. The Islanders did muster one last scoring blitz as Elliott Santana put three shots on net in the final minute but the Devils held on for a 5-2 victory.
