NORTH BERGEN — North Bergen native Greg Herenda has agreed to terms on a multi-year contract to become the new men’s basketball coach at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
The 52-year-old Herenda has been coaching college basketball for the last 30 years, the last five as the head coach at UMass-Lowell, where he posted a 95-54 record over that time.
Herenda was an assistant coach at Holy Cross, Yale, East Carolina and later Seton Hall, where he spent three seasons. He was also a basketball analyst on the YES Network, calling Ivy League games with broadcasting legend John Sterling.
Herenda, who grew up playing basketball on the 79th Street Courts in North Bergen, was a standout player at St. Peter’s Prep and Merrimack College.
Herenda will be introduced officially at a Friday morning press conference. – Jim Hague
