Dear Editor:
The residents of Jersey City are quickly coming to an important decision making impasse within their social/economical environment. There are two major roads to travel leading to two separate directions. One is full of potholes, detours, road blocks, and political exploitations which have inhibited our municipality from achieving greatness. This is a familiar course that will stymie our growth and place burdens on our quality of life. It leads us to a dead-end atmosphere of out dated politics, good old boy mentality, and incompetence full of unlimited sociological thievery, regression, high taxes, violence, greed and corruption.
The other choice is a clear straight newly paved highway, with safe identifying markings, full of expansion with unrestricted visions for the future. It’s guided by a rainbow of endless opportunities which has every indications of finding a potential pot of gold?
We have lost our dignity to rule our own destiny. We have allowed others to manipulate our lives as a tool for their own personnel gains and resources. The government of Jersey City has always been a regal entity of selfishness that ignored the will and needs of the people. This mayoral election we are privileged to have an outstanding individual running for mayor, his name is Steven Fulop. Steve gave back to his community by donating his salary as councilman. He has demonstrated unique characteristics such as logic, intelligence, sympathy, compassion, generosity, honesty, dignity and self respect.
Mayoral candidate Steven Fulop is a great American. His enlistment into the United States Marine Corp, after the horrific terrorist attack on the World Trade Center proves he’s a man of action. He’s a breath of fresh air from the stale smoke filled back room deals orchestrated with deceit, dishonesty, nepotism, cronyism, empty words and promises, false hopes and hand picked political nominees?
Steve displayed his courage and determination not only on the battle field but also as councilman. He was a relentless voice constantly outnumbered fighting the political machine. He honored and respected his oath of office by representing his constituents to the best of his abilities. Even while the Healy Administration persistently harassed and mocked his honesty and integrity. He never sold out, faltered or backed down from their adversity.
President John F. Kennedy said during his inaugural address, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”? Steve is the perfect example of these legendary words.
The Healy administration seems to follow their own creed which is “Ask not what we’re sworn to do for our city, but what our city must unquestionably do for us”.
I’ve lived in Jersey city all my life, and Steve is a refreshing reality. An individual of this magnitude, with high uncorrupted standards doesn’t come along everyday, especially in the Jersey City political arena, and must not be ignored. These reasons I’m happy and honored to give my full endorsement and support to the next Mayor of Jersey City Steven Fulop. Please don’t forget to vote!
