Funeral mass took place April 9 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for Silvestro Ferdinandi, 83. He passed away peacefully on April 4. He was born in Pignataro Interamna, Italy and has lived in Jersey City for most of his life. Known by his family as “Silvest,” “Boss” and “Pop,” others knew him simply as “Chef” whether meeting him at Ilvento’s Restaurant, on the streets of Marion Section and by anyone with whom he’d strike a conversation. He was the husband of 53 years to Rita (Meta) Ferdinandi; father of Maria Ferdinandi, Peter and wife Janine Ferdinandi, Marco and wife Barbara Ferdinandi; grandfather of P.J., Nicholas, Luke and Mateo Ferdinandi; brother of Yolanda Gravina and Rosa DiGiorgio; and also survived by numerous other family members and friends.
