HOBOKEN — After a group of citizens filed a lawsuit on Thursday to stop Hoboken Housing Authority Director Carmelo Garcia from running for Assembly, Thursday night’s HHA meeting wasn’t the barn-burner that some expected.
Garcia critic Jake Stuiver, the outgoing HHA chair, was not at the meeting, but voted by phone.
However, here is an outtake of a tiff at the meeting. Housing resident Margie Biart spoke about a resolution to award a contract to a developer for a new low-income 44-unit building in town. Some board members discussed a potential delay; Biart accused them of having an agenda and “the agenda is City Hall.”
The majority faction of the unpaid HHA Board of Commissioners is allied with Mayor Dawn Zimmer, and they have been critical of Garcia.
