Dear Editor:
Suppose there was a class of citizens who could be factually categorized as “state sanctioned,” bona fide good guys/girls. Now suppose that the official policy of that state was to assail that group to the point where, in effect, feeling so targeted, so denigrated and then ultimately so fearful that they actually started to leave that state in droves. What kind of insanity would common sense determine such a policy to be?
FID Cards certify the holder has passed rigorous personal background checks by the State Police, local police and the FBI in order to legally purchase and possess firearms. What good sense does it make to drive this segment of the populace out of state ‘and’ leave in place other not as clearly defined groups, (i.e. those with ‘no’ mandated criminal background checks to their credit), and that nefarious other group ‘with’ criminal records to their discredit?
Though it seems that the authors of this reality, as educated people, consider this scenario desirable, as one who has been involved in countering this state’s dismal record of endorsing so-called “gun control” over “crime control” I can assure you New Jersey has lost and continues to lose many of its good citizens who fear the loss of everything they have lawfully achieved, (in some instances over lifetimes of honorable and hard work), simply because they chose to exercise a constitutionally guaranteed right that is routinely spat upon by some legislators, too many judges, most political appointees, many law enforcement personnel and most governors who are either ideologically opposed to an armed citizenry and/or more afraid for their lofty and well paid positions in the face of gun hating editorial writers than they are respective of their freely taken oaths of office.
Polls among the “commoners” continually show about a two thirds support for Second Amendment intent. This is not to suggest that manipulatively worded polls should ever trump fundamental law. Though the much hyped incessant call for ever more “gun control” has definitely worked in Cuba, Zimbabwe, Cambodia and many other murder capitals where victims are measured in the millions, it hasn’t worked in Camden, it hasn’t worked in Newark, it hasn’t worked in Jersey City, Patterson or any other crime plagued geographical locale in this state or any other state and logic dictates that such policy continued will leave in place an entire state left turned into a Detroit type ghetto!
