Empowering Hoboken’s Black Leaders of the Future

The theme for the 14th annual Richard Hicks Black Youth Empowerment Luncheon was, “There is no struggle, there is no progress.” The event was hosted at the Hoboken Boys and Girls Club on Feb. 23.
This year’s awards went to those who have made a lasting impact on the community with their service to the kids of Hoboken. None bigger than Brooklyn Nets point guard Tyshawn Taylor, who received the Black Youth Empowerment Special Leadership Award and was the program’s inspirational speaker. Craig Mainor, director of operations, Jubilee Center, along with teacher Chante Blue and Coach Mike Mincey received the Richard Hicks Black Youth Empowerment Luncheon Award for their work with Hoboken youths. The Youth of the Year award went to student Shadah Gonzalez. The Leadership Award went to student Malcolm Lee Jr.
