One week after nearly suffering their first defeat, the Dragons (3-0-1) hoped to get back to their winning ways when they faced the Knights (2-3) in a Jewish Community Center of Bayonne’s Indoor Soccer Junior Division matchup. The Knights took just two minutes to jump out to a 1-0 lead as Andrew Sprague unleashed a long-distance volley from net to net.Trailing by one, it took the high-powered Dragons a while to get on track. But once Drew Radil bulled in the game-tying goal off an assist from team captain Brayden Cotter, the scoring fuse was lit.
With Cotter and Radil zeroed in on racking up their assists total, the Dragons soared out to a 5-1 lead as Daniel Mena netted three goals, while Cotter got into the action by zipping in a score. Facing an uphill battle, the Knights rebounded with Steven Pereira, Christopher Ballance, Harsh Easwar and Joyce Gabrael trailblazing the way to set up Giovanni Russo’s first goal of the season, making it 5-2, Dragons.
For the Dragons, even a three-goal lead couldn’t make them complacent as Josh Belber, Akshat Thakur, and Marcelino Soliman teamed up to put 10 shots on net. While his teammates kept up the heat, Brayden Cotter hit the trifecta with two more goals off assists from Alexandra Soliman and Daniel Mena as the Dragons surged to a 7-2 victory.
