HOBOKEN — What next?
The day after two major water main breaks hit Hoboken — forcing residents to go without water for hours — a third break occurred Friday morning.
The city’s “boil water” advisory remains in effect.
On Friday, a 12-inch water main on Park Avenue and 14th Street broke. This was only a block from the second break on Thursday at 14th Street and Willow Avenue.
The first break occurred in the wee, wee ours of Thursday morning, resulting in a sinkhole at Eighth and Willow avenues that swallowed a small car.
The breaks all occurred on the same parallel streets, Park and Willow, uptown in the mile-square city.
Hoboken was flooded by Hurricane Sandy last November, and many residents are still restoring their basements from that disaster.
ABC news notes that due to the breaks, “New Jersey Transit runs bus service on Willow Avenue, which remains closed. Willow is shut down at 11th Street, and 8th Street is closed at Park Avenue. It is unclear exactly when the repairs will be complete.”
