Dear Editor:
On Saturday, March 2, 2013, the City of Hoboken experienced its annual influx of participants who partake in the festivities related to Saint Patrick’s Day. In addition, it was also the 2nd annual event coordinated by Lepre-Con. This day, similar to recent years, attracted an abundance of visitors and residents alike. This event continually presents some unique and immediate challenges for this department and for public safety in general. Amidst the large crowds that travel and populate Hoboken, many quality of life and alcohol-related incidents have become common place. Unfortunately, this year’s event had a considerable amount of related calls for service.
A special thanks is warranted for all members of this department. This annual event is anything but “routine.” The necessary level of restraint, quick and efficient enforcement were clearly evident. I sincerely appreciate the long hours that were put in by all to ensure that the objectives of the day were achieved. I am extremely proud of the effort, professionalism and teamwork displayed by all members of this department.
I would also like to graciously thank the following agencies and city services for their assistance on this day, including but not limited to the following: Hudson County Rapid Deployment Force, Hudson County Sheriff’s Department, Stevens Police Department, New Jersey Transit Police, Port Authority Police Department, Jersey City Police Department, the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Hoboken O.E.M and the Hoboken Traffic & Signal Division.
In closing, I want to applaud the citizens of Hoboken for their cooperation, patience and much needed assistance. The overall support is greatly appreciated. I want to also acknowledge the coordination exhibited with working with all counterpart agencies. The teamwork and coordination were seamless. The overall genuine care and concern exhibited by all first responders is a prime example of their unyielding commitment to the law enforcement profession and to the community at large. Thanks again on a job well done!
Chief Anthony P. Falco Sr.
