A funeral mass was celebrated March 12 at St. Francis R.C. Church, Hoboken for Giacomo Sallustio, 89, of Weehawken. He passed away March 9 at Christ Hospital in Jersey City. Born in Molfetta, Italy, Giacomo served in the Italian Merchant Marines and was a POW in Germany for three years. Mr. Sallustio arrived in the United States in 1948 through Norfolk, Va. Settled in Hoboken shortly after and met and married his wife Amelia in 1951. Giacomo learned the trade of masonry and founded Molfetta Construction Co. in 1974. He retired in 2001 where he spent his time with his wife, children and grandchildren at home and on vacations.
He loved music, horse racing, bowling and cruises. He will be missed for his compassion, vision, generosity, and wisdom. He will be missed by his wife of 62 years Amelia; his children Marta and her husband Aldo Cimillo, Jack and his wife Louise Sallustio, Dr. Anthony Sallustio and his wife Dr. Claudine Carbone; sister Tonia and her husband Gino Freschi and loving sister Rosetta Giovene; and a sister-in-law, Lina Sallustio. A great joy in Giacomo’s life were his 10 grandchildren, Ralph, Gina, Anthony, Jack, Jeduanny, Maria, Lea, JIllian, Emily, and Anthony; also surviving is a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Angelo. Services arranged by the Failla Memorial Home, Hoboken.
