Here in the mile-square city, everybody’s heard of a pub crawl. What they may not have heard of is a dish crawl. Dishcrawl, a San Francisco-based startup that offers unique dining experience, is headed to Hoboken on Wednesday, March 20 at 7 p.m.
Dishcrawl guides local foodies through a tour of four of the city’s finest restaurants. The aim is to bring local residents together to bond over a unique dining experience and bring positive exposure to local restaurants.
The kicker? The restaurants will remain a mystery until just before the event.
In order to keep anticipation high, participating Dishcrawlers will have the first location revealed to them two days before the event. Sometimes two locations can be “leaked” before the event depending on the person in charge, according to Alexandra Bardinas, a New York City Dishcrawl Ambassador.
Bardinas said she has worked with local blogs like Hobokengirl.com to spread the word.
How to crawl
Beginning on Washington Street, diners will embark on their mystery culinary journey of four locations for $45. All of the locations are within walking distance.
“The group only spends about five minutes walking to each location,” Bardinas said Thursday.
The group of diners will then spend about half of an hour to 45 minutes in the first three locations. Chefs or owners will have time to talk about the meal or restaurant tidbits during that time, while they offer small pre-plated meals.
“This is their time to speak to the foodies and promote themselves,” said Bardinas.
The final restaurant will serve up a small dessert.

A typical group of Dishcrawlers consists of 25 to 40 people and Hoboken sold out fast. However, Bardinas added a few more tickets to the event once she saw how much of an interest Hobokenites had in the crawl.

Dishcrawlers can enjoy dining experiences in San Francisco, New York, Montreal, Ottawa, San Jose, Toronto, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and more. Dishcrawl is also on its way to Jersey City in April.
