Markowski marvels as Rockets soar

The Jewish Community Center of Bayonne’s Senior Division Indoor Soccer season got underway recently with the Rockets taking on the Comets. The Rockets hit the ground running as Hailey Bouillon cashed in with the season’s first goal off an assist by Chris Shaw. Leading 1-0, the Rockets’ Madison Neal Markowski quickly made it 2-0 with a net-torching penalty kick. Down 2-zip after just five minutes, the Comets’ offense accelerated as James Bajor, Joshua Verzosa and Allen McComb each put shots on net, but the Rockets refused to give up a goal. The next five minutes mirrored the first five as the Rockets’ Colin Woods notched a penalty goal, followed by Woods assisting Madison Neal Markowski on her second goal of the game, making it 4-0, Rockets. The Comets’ offense finally clicked as Michael Lago worked the ball to Alexandro Gonzalez, who slammed in a goal to cut the Rockets’ lead to 4-1.
As the second half began, both teams seemed to settle in as Meghann Mock, Chris Shaw and Mackenzie Woods anchored the Rockets’ defense while Drew Radil, Elliott Santana and Natalleyah Teixeira sured up the Comets’ porous defensive ranks. Up by three goals, the Rockets stayed patient while the Comets pressed as they tried to claw back. With the Comets on the attack, the Rockets’ Hailey Bouillon turned the tables and sailed a pass to Madison Neal Markowski, who made it 5-1 with her third goal of the bout. Once again, the Comets went all out on offense and once again the Rockets pounced. Goalie Chris Shaw unleashed a goal-to-goal strike to end the fray as the Rockets soared to a 6-1 victory.
