Free parking at some light rail stations on weekends
Starting Feb. 16, NJ Transit will offer free parking on Saturdays and Sundays at all five park-and-ride locations along the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system.
“Free parking on Saturdays and Sundays is a great incentive for people to get out of their cars and hop on the light rail and explore,” said NJ Transit Executive Director James Weinstein.
“Customers will save more than just money; with convenient access to the waterfront and trans-Hudson connections, they’ll avoid traffic and save time as well.”
Customers will be able to take advantage of free parking from 12:01 a.m. on Saturdays until the end of the service day on Sundays at the following stations: 22nd Street and 34th Street, Bayonne; West Side Avenue and Liberty State Park, Jersey City; and Tonnelle Avenue, North Bergen.
NJ Transit is initiating the free parking program as a one-year pilot program aimed at encouraging the use of the light rail and increasing weekend ridership.

No confirmed bullying
A school report for December and January showed that of the four reports of possible bullying, none could be confirmed after an investigation. Two cases were reported in Dr. Walter F. Robinson School, one in Horace Mann School, and one in Bayonne High School.
School budget meeting scheduled
The Bayonne Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. on March 4 in the Anna J. Herbert Public Meeting Room to discuss the 2013-2014 school budget. A closed session will also involve discussions on the budget as well as personnel items. An open agenda session will be held at 6 p.m. on March 14 which the public can attend but not participate in. A closed session will also discuss the terms and conditions of pending collective bargaining agreements, as well as possible litigation involving collective bargaining and other matters.
Business owners to review new card program
A planned discount card that could help bolster local businesses and provide residents a way to pay taxes through local purchases will be unveiled at a meeting hosted by the Bayonne UEZ/SID at a special luncheon at Piccolino’s on March 1.
Representatives from the New Jersey Business and Industry Association will be in attendance. The New Jersey Business and Industry Association provides information, services and advocacy to its member companies in order to build a more prosperous New Jersey, they are also the nation’s largest statewide employer association. Its members, as a group, employ more than one million people. In addition, attendees will also learn more details regarding the Shop Bayonne Tax Card Program, who will also be on hand to discuss small business opportunities in New Jersey.
