To the Editor:
I would like to point out a deficit in Bayonne. On May 3, 2012, the A&P closed at North Street. This left the lower half of Bayonne without any major supermarket. This has caused a great inconvenience for senior citizens without private transportation. They really can go to only one supermarket, Shop Rite on 25th Street. They really can’t go to Stop & Shop because there is a long walk from the light rail. Also they would have to cross over a large highway.
Now, have you ever been in the Shop Rite? I have no problem with a business making a profit. However, have you ever seen how crowded it is? Bayonne has no problem giving a business tax rebate or bond to stay in Bayonne. Why can they not give a tax rebate to introduce a major supermarket to come into lower Bayonne? This would make the quality of life a lot better for senior citizens!
