Heading into week two of the JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Flag Football Junior Division, the Bears (1-0) and the Jets (0-1) were eager to restart their season after the storm put a damper on the recent games. The Bears took an early 8-0 lead when Ryan Griffin reeled in a long TD pass from QB Drew Radil, followed by a two-point scamper by speedster Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes. After their offense stalled, the Jets’ defense put points on the board when Josh Belber, Marcelino Soliman and Thomas Canela swarmed the Bears’ ball-carrier for a safety, making it 8-2, Bears. The Bears’ defense continued to keep the Jets’ offense grounded and after Ryan Griffin picked off a Jets’ pass at mid-court, the Bears “O” was back in action. On the first down, the Bears made it 14-2 when Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes took a toss swee
p 15 yards to paydirt. In the second half, the Jets’ offense got a boost from Devin Herrin, who engineered a long drive, but the Jets once again fell prey to miscues as the Bears’ Alejandro Cifuentes pilfered a Jets’ pass attempt. With the ball on their own five yard line, the Bears went to work using Michael Egan, Victor Mendolaro and Akshat Thakur as the work horses for their ground game. As the Jets’ “D” focused on stopping the run, the Bears ran play action and zipped a pass to Ryan Griffin for his second TD reception as the Bears’ lead increased to 20-2. With the game well in hand, the Bears iced the cake with a short TD toss to their team captain Drew Radil for a 26-2 victory.
