Tilted Kilt truly is a watering hole. Tucked conveniently within sight of the Ninth Street light rail stop, it has a huge bar from which patrons can watch 38 flat-screen TVs. And the waitresses—no offense, but it seems like not just anybody can be a server here. They’re drop-dead gorgeous, their kilts tilted downward, and atop that, well, let’s just say that cleavage is the order of the day.
The bar features some 50 beers, 14 traditional brews on tap and 10 in bottles, as well as 25 craft beers.
Photographer Terri Saulino Bish ordered a colorful concoction from the “Brilliant Bevvies” list of mixed drinks. Known as a Purple Haze, it consists of a “refreshing and fruity” mixture of three olive grape vodka, peach schnapps, blue Curacao, sweet and sour, Sprite, and cranberry juice.
Other bar offerings include beer cocktails, kilt bombers, shakes, sharp shooters, select wines, aged whiskey, and premium spirits.
Let’s get back to those flat-screen TVs. Manager Adam Hendricks, who sat down with us for a brief chat, refers to the establishment as a sports bar.
No kidding! I caught a clip of tennis great Raphael Nadal; lots of baseball games; highlights from the Olympics; snippets of hockey, basketball, and football games; skateboarding; boxing; and numerous rain delays. Did I say golf? I can’t swear to it, but there must have been a golf game up there somewhere.
The guys at the bar—and it was mostly guys—had that all-American firefighter look, and one customer asked Terri to take pictures of him with a couple of the well-proportioned “Kilt Girls.”
Rachel, our Kilt Girl, made sure we had everything we needed. The pub menu includes a wide range of teasers, salads, burgers, wings, wraps, sandwiches, pizza, and standard pub fare, such as steaks and fish.
Terri ordered a really fine fish taco with battered cod, shredded cabbage, tomatoes, cilantro, and cayenne ranch sauce, wrapped in a soft flour tortilla.
I had the Scottish Cheesesteak Salad, with romaine lettuce, diced tomatoes, shaved rib eye steak, sautéed peppers and onions, and melted provolone cheese.
We happened to drop in on a rainy evening, and it felt really cozy and friendly inside, with the decibel level appropriately robust.
Don’t worry if you’re not into sports or hot chicks. This is a spot where everybody can have a fun time.—Kate Rounds
