Dear Editor:
With the mayoral race being less than six months away; it is sure getting hot in Jersey City. In the past couple of weeks, numerous organizations and people have announced their endorsements for their mayoral pick. I was happy to see Councilman Steven Fulop receive the endorsements from African American and Latino leaders as well as Freeholder Bill O’dea. Fulop’s biggest challenger now is Mayor Healy. Healy has been the mayor of New Jersey’s second largest city for nearly eight years now. The big question is; Where is the progress? After our former Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham died, Healy won in a special election and was re-elected twice after that. For someone who has had eight years to fix this city, I don’t see what he has really done so special.
Former Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham was doing a lot for the city especially addressing the crime situations. I believe Jersey City was a much better place under his leadership than the current administration. Jersey City still has an ongoing high crime issue, high unemployment issue, high taxes issue, high deficit issue, liter issues and so on. If someone can’t tackle these issues in eight years it’s a big problem. Why even run for re-election? Jersey City is at a crossroads right now. Residents are looking for a leader who will stand up against the status quo and put their concerns first. That person is clearly Steven Fulop.
