Hoboken Redwings lightweight division celebrates win in Hudson County Super Bowl

The Hoboken Redwings football lightweight division took the Hudson County Super Bowl Championship on Sunday, Nov. 25 against North Bergen. The Redwings defeated North Bergen in a 6-0 win.
The lightweight division, which is typically 9 and 10-year-olds, had suffered only one loss during their regular season, and that was to North Bergen who they played for the championship.

“It was a very good game. It was a very defensive game, for both sides,” said Coach Randy Johnson. “North Bergen really came out and played hard.”
The Redwings took home the first place conference trophy as well as the championship trophy.
According to a parent, the children and their parents were escorted down Washington Street to the football fields.
The players then doused the coaches in water and Gatorade, in celebration of their victory.
When asked if he got covered in water or Gatorade, Coach Johnson said, “I have no idea what it was. I just know it was wet and it was cold.”
Coach Johnson is thankful to his coaching staff, specifically his right hand man, offense and defense line coach Danny Clifford, and his assistant coach Tareek Montague for all their hard work this season. Johnson also gave thanks to his supporting coaches Anthony Enriquez, Chad Stone, and Vinny Johnson.
