SPINCOLA, CARL Sr.

A funeral mass was offered Dec. 7 at SS. Joseph and Michael’s Church, Union City, for Carl Spincola, Sr., a lifelong resident of Union City and a retired Union City police inspector. He passed away suddenly on Dec. 4. Carl began his career with the Union City Police Department in the early 1970s. He quickly rose through the ranks and was promoted to sergeant, lieutenant and captain in the 1970s and 1980s before achieving the rank of Inspector in the 1990s. Carl, an expert in the fields of criminal law and criminal procedure, prepared and tutored countless police officers to pass their promotional exams. He also served his country, and was a member of the United States Coast Guard and was stationed in Cape May, during the mid1960s.
Carl was a husband and father. He and his high school sweetheart, Roseann Yandolino Spincola, celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary this past September and enjoyed frequent visits to Florida during Carl’s retirement years. Carl was also an alumnus of Emerson High School, a member of the Emerson High School Alumni Association and a former Emerson High School football player. He regularly attended Emerson alumni football dinners and Emerson High Football games. He also attended Jersey City State College, Farleigh Dickinson University and the State Police Academy in Sea Girt. Carl was also an active member of the state Fraternal Order of Police, The Police Officers Benevolent Association, Kiwanis International and The Honor Legion.
Carl was predeceased by his parents, the late James and Amelia Spincola. He is survived by his wife Roseann Yandolino Spincola and sons, Gregory and Carl, Jr. Spincola. He is also predeceased by two brothers, the late William and the late Vincent. He leaves many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Services arranged by the Leber Funeral Home, Union City.
