NORTH BERGEN BRIEFS

Julio Morejon, North Bergen prosecutor, is new Union City housing attorney

North Bergen municipal attorney and former West New York town attorney Julio Morejon was confirmed as the new attorney for the Union City Housing Authority at a meeting Tuesday night. Morejon was confirmed unanimously by the Housing Authority board, with Martin Martinetti abstaining.
Morejon will remain municipal attorney in North Bergen, he said after the meeting tonight, as well as at his private practice in Guttenberg.
“My position in North Bergen is part-time,” he said, “and the position in Union City will be billed based on how much I work. It is not salaried.”
Morejon hoped to become county prosecutor earlier this year.
Morejon worked as West New York’s town attorney from May 2011 until December 2011, and has been working in North Bergen since July of this year, according to his LinkedIn account.

Blogger acquitted

North Bergen blogger Harold “Hal” Turner filed a lawsuit in federal court in Newark on Nov. 21 claiming he was falsely arrested, wrongfully imprisoned and maliciously prosecuted, according to ABC News. Turner was arrested in June 2009 for allegedly threatening and inciting violence for urging readers of his blog to “take up arms and put down this tyranny by force” because Connecticut legislators were considering a law, later abandoned, giving lay people greater control over Catholic parish finances, a measure Turner considered unconstitutional. A jury acquitted Turner last year, and he is now suing Connecticut state government officials for $50 million.
According to ABC News, a spokeswoman for Attorney General George Jepsen declined to comment and said the office will respond to the allegations in court.
