Funeral services took place Dec. 8 at Glorious Blessed Assurance Baptist Church, Jersey City, for Mattie Lee Phillips Brinson. She passed away Dec. 2. She was born in Emanuel County, Ga., to the late Willie and Ethel Phillips. Mattie married the late Berry Brinson on May 12, 1934. The couple relocated to Jersey City with their four children in 1942, later adding five more children to their family. Mattie was employed at the Pollack Hospital as a nurse’s assistant for several decades until she retired. Mattie was a Christian woman and at the time of her passing she was the Mother of Glorious Blessed Assurance Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend R. Samuel Davis, Sr. Mattie loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and made sure that they were introduced to the Lord. Surviving to cherish Mattie’s memory are five children, Earlverna Campbell, Maggie Brinson Coleman, Nell Oliver, Nadean Brinson Normil and Lee Berry Brinson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
