Hoboken Mayor Zimmer releases statement on Connecticut school shooting

HOBOKEN — News media and police swarmed around a location in uptown Hoboken Friday afternoon, looking for information about a suspect in the deadly school shooting in Connecticut. Mayor Dawn Zimmer released a short statement.
“I am horrified and sickened by the tragedy in Newtown,” she said. “My heart breaks for the families of all the victims. On behalf of the residents of Hoboken, we extend our deepest sympathy to the community of Newtown for their tremendous loss. The city of Hoboken will continue to assist the Connecticut State Police in any way requested.”
Zimmer released no other information.
In an earlier report at hudsonreporter.com, city spokesman Juan Melli was tight-lipped about the Hoboken connection to the shooting. However, the Hoboken police gave a statement Friday afternoon. They said that they were uncertain whether the suspect lives at the 13th and Grand Street location being searched by police, or whether it is a the residence of a relative (possibly his brother). Roommates were being questioned Friday afternoon.
Hoboken, a mile-square city across the river from New York City, is home to thousands of people in their twenties and thirties who move here to start their careers, often living with roommates at first.
