HOBOKEN — According to an article in New Jersey Business, design firm Cooper Carry has been hired to design a 20-story, 200-room hotel behind the River Street Post Office in Hoboken, near the PATH station. The article said that Philadelphia-based KMS Development Partners are developing the hotel alongside the United States Post Office. The hotel plan covers 140,000 square feet and would “reconfigure aspects of the current post office.”
According to Hoboken Spokesman Juan Melli, while the area has been deemed one in need of rehabilitation, nothing has been approved.
“The post office wants to redevelop the area,” Melli said Tuesday, “and the City Council designated it an area in need of rehabilitation. The discussions have begun but absolutely nothing has been approved.”
Cooper Carry and KMS Development will have to await approval from the council.
