Dear Editor:
I’d like to thank the Weehawken Township officials and personnel who displayed tremendous heart in their reaction to Hurricane Sandy. All hands were on deck to help fight the ravaging effects of the storm. Even before the storm started, all of the township’s departments and agencies went into action and there were hundreds who worked tirelessly and selflessly to help anyone who suffered along the way.
Led by Mayor Turner, the Township Council and Township Manager, it was a terrific effort. And there were countless volunteers who also helped, including the members of our own Weehawken Volunteer First Aid Squad. Many who assisted during the emergency did not have electricity and, in some cases, water, at their own homes. It was truly a heroic display which made me proud to be part of this community. The storm is over and the urgency has passed for most but many of our neighbors are still reeling from the after-effects and are in great need. A special fund has been created to help those in our town whose lives and living conditions have been devastated.
During this season of giving, please consider making a donation to the Weehawken and You Civic Association Emergency Fund, PO Box 3016, Weehawken N.J. 07086.
With gratititude,
Bruce Sherman
Weehawken Resident
