NORTH BERGEN — The Police Department will launch a DWI checkpoint on a major roadways within the township to prevent driving while intoxicated over the Thanksgiving holiday. The checkpoint will be in effect from Wednesday evening Nov. 21 through Thanksgiving.
“Driving while intoxicated is a major safety concern for the motoring public during the holiday season,” said North Bergen Police Chief Robert Dowd. “The North Bergen Police Department is taking proactive measures to detect and deter drivers who operate their vehicles while intoxicated and encourage the motoring public to seek alternative forms of transportation if they intend to consume alcoholic beverages. We’re taking the appropriate steps necessary to increase public awareness as well as safeguard and protect drivers and pedestrians alike.”
