Dear Editor:
On behalf of Harmon Cove I, I cannot begin to express the depth of the gratitude our community owes to you, Susan Piro, the hard-working employees of the DPW, the OEM, police and fire departments, PSE&G, the business community, and all the dedicated town employees and legions of volunteers for the heroic efforts that got us through Hurricane Sandy. Going days with little sleep and despite your own losses from the storm (and by “you,” I mean not just you but all the individual saviors from these many organizations), you worked non-stop to maintain shelters, safety and the well-being of citizens.
Residents continue to come up to me to say they don’t know what we would have done without the shelter in the Harmon Cove clubhouse. Not only did it provide us a refuge during the storm, afterward it became a center for communications, generator-powered electricity, and hot food. You kept us warm and fed at a time when our furnaces, stoves and phones would not work, and even helped restock our freezers when the storm had passed. There is no way to adequately express how much it all is appreciated.
Throughout the community, there is high praise and heartfelt appreciation that we live in a city that was so well prepared. Thanks to the high level of volunteer spirit in Secaucus, backed by experience, efficiency, and dedication, we came through the storm far better than many. Please spread our gratitude to the many city departments, organizations, businesses and dedicated legions of volunteers who helped us cope so well through this disaster.
So many were involved, it is impossible to individually express our thanks to the many who worked so hard for so many hours. So I’ll make one last request for assistance: Please distribute this message to as many as you can to let them know how very much their dedication and hard work are appreciated.
I can’t say it enough. Many, many, many, many thanks.
Sincerely,
Carol Ellison
President, Harmon Cove I Board of Directors
