Cifuentes, Miceli key Bears’ win

The JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Flag Football season got underway with a Junior Division bout between the Bears and the Colts. The Bears struck paydirt first when speedster Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes raced 20 yards for a TD, followed by a two-point sprint by Matthew Miceli for an 8-0 Bears’ lead. For the next 30 minutes, both squads turned the fray into a defensive brawl as Victor Mendolaro, Michael Egan, Ryan Griffin and Akshat Thakur spearheaded the Bears’ defense.
The Colts’ Nate Cintron, Damien Taylor, Erik Solis and Ashley Solis kept the Bears’ offense in check. The Bears had a golden opportunity to notch another score when quarterback Drew Radil unleashed a coast-to-coast bomb, but the pass sailed just out of reach of an open receiver.
With eight seconds remaining, the Colts finally found the end zone when Chris Ballance drilled a TD strike to Michael Tedesco. Unfortunately, the Colts’ two-point conversion failed as the Bears held on for a hard-fought 8-6 victory, particularly due to the Bears’ Ryan Griffin and Drew Radil coming up with key interceptions throughout the game.
