Bajor, Morrone soar for Eagles

At (1-0), the Chargers got out to a solid start in the JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Flag Football Senior Division, but the high-powered Eagles were ready to test their wings. The Eagles soared out to a 6-0 lead in the first play of the game as Adrianna “Magic” Morrone pulled in a wire-to-wire TD toss from James Bajor. With one game under their belt, the Chargers employed their workhorse running back James Johnson, who tied the bout at 6-6 with a goal-to-goal sprint. Knotted at 6-6, the Chargers’ Jaime Betancur reeled in his second interception of the season, but the Chargers’ offense stalled.
With the ball at their own one-foot mark, the Eagles’ Adrianna Morrone turned a draw play into a coast-to-coast TD voyage, giving the Eagles a 12-6 advantage. Up by 6 points, Morrone took her magic to the other side of the ball as she latched onto an interception, which led to James Bajor’s TD strike and an 18-6 Eagles’ lead. The Chargers’ Malachi Smith tightened things up with a TD and two-point reception, making it 18-14, Eagles. With the Chargers hot on their heels, the Eagles got some breathing room as James Bajor bolted for a long TD, followed by Adrianna Morrone’s third TD and Tyler Cholankeril’s two-point catch. It gave the Eagles a 32-14 lead.
The Chargers closed the gap to 10 points when Jaime Betancur gripped a TD toss and capped off the drive with James Johnson’s two-point dash. As the clock became a factor, the Eagles got some insurance when James Bajor recorded his third TD catch and Adrianna Morrone hit the 20-point mark, making it 40-22 with her two-point grab. The Chargers kept plugging away with Jamarron Aquino, Ashley Solis, Alec Brandon Hawes and Jan Patrick Egan working the ball up court. When Malachi Smith reeled in his second TD pass, the Chargers cut the Eagles’ lead to 40-28. Leading by 12, the Eagles turned to Ryan Ballance and Justin DeCicco to close out the victory with pinpoint passing and smart ball control for the 40-28 win.
